Leading by Example: Action Over Words

I'm a firm believer in leading by example and is one of the reasons I have been able to build highly productive teams over the course of my career in the IT industry.


If I ask an employee to work after hours, I'm also willing to do so to get the job done! Never ask someone to do something that your not willing to do yourself. Rolling up your sleeves and pitching in is an excellent way to build rapport with your staff and show them that you value the part they play on the team and that your title or position is of little significance to you.

An effective leader is one that uses their title or position to drive change, protect their employees, and foster an environment of teamwork and collaboration. If you have to verbalize your title or act like the "boss" on a daily basis, you are not a leader! You are a tyrant!


Leadership is not just about holding a position of authority; it's about inspiring and guiding others towards a common goal. One of the most effective ways to lead is by example. Leading by example means demonstrating the behaviors, values, and work ethic you expect from your team.
